Colonial House Plans
The original American home first emerged in the early 17th century as the New World began to take shape. Stemming from European homes, this design is characterized by clean, simple lines and quality craftsmanship. Because of its popularity, many different regions took on their own shape; for example Southern homes featured higher ceilings to stay cool while Northern homes had lower ceilings to keep heat centralized. During the age of Victorian homes, Colonial styles were hardly seen. However, as America celebrated its 100th birthday, many people became intrigued with the history of this home style, which led to the Colonial Revival. Maintaining the simplicity of design, and adding luxuries that were in demand, these homes have withstood the test of time and are sure to remain a fixture decorating America. |
