Details, Details, Details! In the mid-19th century, architects moved toward rich, unique designs, and away from simple Colonial styles. The Industrialization Era played a big role, as new framing options were available and mass-produced. The availability of decorative ornamentation became relatively inexpensive. Bay windows, turrets and multiple rooflines replaced the rectangular shapes of the past. These asymmetrical designs featured wide verandas and grand towers and often vibrant colors.
